Paul Prosper is the Regional Chief for Nova Scotia with the Assembly of First Nations and a natural born leader. He stepped forward and offered Halifax as the host for the Annual General Assembly in 2023.
This event will see First Nations chiefs from across Canada will come together to discuss the affairs of their respective nations.
Regional Chief Prosper has been actively involved in leading the event locally, working closely with Discover Halifax. “They were there every step of the way, and it was such a wonderful experience to have that support,” said Prosper.
WHY HE DID IT
“I wanted to showcase our province, our territory, Kjipuktuk otherwise known as Halifax,” said Regional Chief Prosper. This year’s Annual General Assembly coincides with North American Indigenous Games this year, which kicks off just a week later in Kjipuktuk on July 15th.
When asked, ‘why Halifax?’, Regional Chief Prosper stated, “Halifax has amazing things to offer for any event, the location, size of the city and incorporating Mi'kmaq knowledge and culture is an excellent fit. It’s the place to be in Canada.”
BIG OUTCOMES
Halifax will welcome 600 First Nations chiefs and upwards of 1400 additional delegates from across Canada for the Annual General Assembly. Many of which will likely stay in the city to take in the North American Indigenous Games, happening July 15 to 23, 2023.
Discover Halifax is based in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi`kmaq. We are all treaty people.
