Mathew, Vice Chair of Deloitte Private, Canada, is no stranger to bringing big events to our city. Most recently, Mathew took the lead and convinced his firm to bring the 2022 Deloitte Canada Partner Meeting to Halifax.
Mathew also played instrumental roles in attracting the 2003 Canadian Curling Championship, 2010 Tim Horton’s Brier, 2015 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship and the 2019 Kia Memorial Cup, among other events.
WHY HE DID IT
Typically, the Deloitte Partner Meeting is held in much larger cities, however Mathew felt that Halifax is a city that deserves to be shown off. Working with Discover Halifax, Mathew was able to showcase Halifax as a good fit to the firm’s executive. “Halifax is a gem of a city to hold a conference in. You don’t have to get on a bus. You can walk to the hotels, and the pubs, and the restaurants,” said Mathew.
BIG OUTCOMES
The 2022 Deloitte Partner Meeting brought nearly 1500 partners from across Canada and internationally, turning Downtown Halifax Deloitte green. Mathew mentioned there may have been a few skeptics in the mix that didn’t think Halifax could pull it off, but we quickly converted them into believers. “Regional Managing Partner Sheri Penner and our team of Halifax team of partners really did a great job,” said Mathew.
The event even went on to win national awards for its design and execution.
