HOLLY LAPIERRE

During Holly’s 30+ years with Bell Canada, she juggled her career along with running Hammonds Plains Minor Baseball. Now that she is retired, she can focus solely on baseball and being a grandmother. She has also held leadership roles with Baseball Canada and Baseball Nova Scotia and is currently a member of the Board for the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, located in St Mary’ s Ontario.

We can thank Holly for bringing Baseball Canada’s Senior Women's Nationals to Halifax in 2023. Although, that wasn’t Holly’s first time attracting an event to our city. Holly has helped bring six national championships to our front door in the last 10 years. 

WHY SHE DID IT

“Anytime I can support a female event, I want to be there to do that for them,” said Holly. 

Holly had her eye on hosting the Senior Women’s Nationals in Halifax for many years. The challenge was always that immediately after the tournament, the Women’s National Team would travel out of country to attend the World Cup. When Holly got wind that the 2023 World Cup Qualifier was going to be in Thunder Bay, she put in a bid with Baseball Canada to bring the National Championship to Halifax. Nova Scotia was now a realistic host option for this event.

BIG OUTCOMES

In 2023 Halifax hosted the Senior Women’s Nationals for Baseball Canada. This is only the 2nd ever time the championship has been hosted in Nova Scotia. 

The Championship brought nearly 200 participants from across Canada, and thousands of spectators. The four-day event had an estimated $344,600 in economic impact for our city. 

When we asked Holly why it’s important to bring events like this to Halifax, she said, “It fills our hotels, our restaurants, and not only that, it’s good for female sports and the growth and development of female baseball in our province.”
