When Bob moved to Halifax 5-years ago, he immediately joined a local choir. It was a trip to a national choral event in Newfoundland that inspired he and his fellow singers to found the Halifax Gay Men’s Chorus. It was at this time that Bob connected with local ensemble ‘The Women next door’ who attended the previous Unison festival in Calgary in 2018 and were part of the team that supported the bid to bring the Unison Choruses Canada’s UNISSON Festival to Halifax’s shores.
The UNISSON Festival is held every 4-years and supports the LGBTQ+ community. This year it will be held May 19-22, 2023 in Halifax.
WHY HE DID IT
Seeing other big cultural events coming to our city, Bob saw the opportunity, with others, to bring this event to Halifax and to our local LGBTQ+ community. “Halifax has seen a lot of growth,” says Bob. “It’s the right time for Halifax.”
BIG OUTCOMES
600 delegates will land in Halifax for the UNISSON Festival this week. That will include more than 15-choirs with anywhere from 6 to 86 members each, bringing awareness to our LGBTQ+ communities across Canada.
Bob said he’d love to help bring more events to the city, after a short break.
